IELTS Speaking Part-1 – Trees questions and answers

1. What kind of trees do people usually plant in your country?

In Canada, people plant all sorts of trees but most commonly are Paper Birch, The Lodgepole Pine, Western Red Cedar, White Spruce, Red Oak, Rocky Mountain Fir and Sugar Maple. All of them are quintessential, especially The Rocky Mountain Fir which is usually the type of tree sold as Christmas tree in Canada Surprisingly, the Canadian White Spruce is considered exotic in the U.K and has been farmed for decorations.

2. Have you ever planted a tree?

Yes, I have been part of numerous tree plantation drives across the country. As a matter of fact, I’ve been working with Greenpeace for the past 10 years and recently we made a national record of planting 25 million trees in just under 12 hours at Northern Canada.

3. What kind of trees do you plant?

I plant native species appropriate to local climate, light, soil, moisture conditions, and space availability. For instance, I plant Deciduous trees in the spring, as soon as the frost is out of the ground, or in the fall, from leaf-fall until freeze-up.

4. Do you like planting trees and why?

Yes, I like planting trees because I am an avid gardener and a true believer in nature preservation. Planting trees…I believe, is one small way each of us can help improve the environment. Trees make our world a beautiful place. They provide us with so many lasting benefits – shade, privacy, increased property value, shelter and food, and they contribute to our mental well-being as well.
