Here’s the first sample answer to Describe a person who likes to grow plants IELTS Speaking Cue Card:

Introduction

Growing your own plants can be one of the most rewarding experiences. We are very fortunate to have been living on a planet with plenty of nature and natural resources to support plantations. So today, I would love to speak about a close friend of mine who likes to grow plants to such an extent that we call him a Tree Hugger.

Who the person is? & How do you know the person?

The person I am talking about is Mandeep – one of my childhood friends. When we were in school together, Mandeep was always the one who stood up for any tree plantation drives. And then we drifted apart and he followed his passion to become an agricultural scientist.

What types of plants does he/she grow?

There are different kinds of vegetation that he has grown at his home. Prominently, Milii (which is popularly known as the Christ plant), Jasmine, Chilli, Tomato, and Brinjal can be easily found in his garden.

Why does he/she likes to grow plants?

I once asked why is he so passionate about growing plants. He told me that plants make him happy. They give him purpose, something to take care of other than himself. Moreover, He’s an entrepreneur and earns thousands of rupees a month from his part-time gardening e-commerce channel.

I also feel that he likes to grow plants because he has some diet issues. The doctors have recommended eating organic food only. And as you know, the organic food is so scarce in the Indian market nowadays, to be self-sufficient is the need of the hour.

Concluding the Cue Card

Whenever I visited his home, I could see a pile of vegetable branches hanging on the doors and his backyard full of exquisite flowers. He usually allows me to do ploughing, sowing, weeding and threshing. In fact, I first learned the concept of Organic farming from Mandeep.

On the whole, Mandeep made me think plants give us whatever good is possible in this era of hatred and toxicity!

MODEL ANSWER 2

In India, gardening is a highly well-liked pastime. A significant number of people I know enjoy gardening as a hobby. However, today I would take this opportunity to talk about my uncle who has taught me everything about growing plants and trees. After retiring, my uncle took up some plant seeds and a shovel and started this activity.

He has worked in the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare for quite a while in his professional career. Therefore, he knew how to use his expertise in plants. Another thing is that his home has a sizeable backyard, providing plenty of room for growing plants.

He began by planting Marigold flowers and an Aloe Vera plant. Following that, he planted some fruit plants, including bananas, papaya, mango and guava. In fact, he now has a kitchen garden where he raises all of his own veggies.

Pesticides and other chemicals are widely utilised in farming today. He, therefore, dislikes purchasing vegetables from the market. I think his vegetables also taste different, in my opinion. Perhaps it’s because he composts kitchen garbage instead of using chemicals.

During COVID, I spent a lot of quality time with my uncle. He taught me unique gardening techniques that really helped. That’s when I learned how much he knew and how much he loved gardening. And I believe he could publish volumes on the subject.
