Flowers Questions & Answers (IELTS Speaking Part-1)
In the IELTS Speaking Part-1 Flowers topic, there will be a Question & Answer session between the candidate and the examiner around flowers, 5-6 questions at most.
The examiner will also ask some general questions at the beginning about the candidate, for instance, about where you live, where you work, study etc.
The questions that you need to answer are:
- What kind of flowers do you know?
- Are there any flowers that have special significance in your country?
- Have you ever planted any flowers by yourself?
- Have you sent flowers to anyone?
1. What kind of flowers do you know?
Flowers are nature’s gift to mankind. I know a lot of them such as Lotus, Tulip, Peruvian Lilies, Carnations, Daisies, Sunflowers, Orchids.. and the list goes on. All of them are dear to me because I maintain a small garden full of flowers in the backyard of my house.

Indian subcontinent mostly has a favourable tropical climate, and different varieties of flowers grow here. Some widely famous flowers that I know are Rose, Jasmine, Marigold, Lotus, Sunflower, and Marie gold.
2. Are there any flowers that have special meaning in your country?
There are flowers with special meaning in my country. For instance, LOTUS – is a sacred flower and has been an auspicious symbol of Indian culture. Plus, we’ve different kinds of Roses which symbolizes love and true friendship.

The Lotus – the national flower of India is a symbol of purity in Hinduism. Many Hindu gods and goddesses are depicted as sitting on the lotus or holding it in their hands. It is also used for worshipping gods in religious congregations.
Another example is Jasmine, Jasmine garlands are quite popular in Indian wedding ceremonies.
3. Have you ever planted any flowers by yourself?
I maintain a beautiful garden in the backyard of my home, so I always plant flowers myself. Actually, It works like a small business for me, where I grow flowers and later sell them in an open market.
or
I have planted many Tulips in my backyard. They look gorgeous and are easy to maintain. Moreover, they can endure different weather conditions. I have also planted Jasmine flowers in the recycled trash bins.
4. Have you sent flowers to anyone?
I have sent orchids to my Mom & Dad every year on their wedding anniversary. They are too fond of them. I do remember once I sent flowers to my Aunt as well, with a ‘sorry’ note after broking her glass with a basketball.

I send flowers to my parents on their anniversary every year. My mother loves red roses and likes to put them by our kitchen window. I have also given flowers to my cousins on special occasions like birthdays and weddings.
