IELTS Speaking Part 1 – READING [Answers + Band 9 Vocabulary]

In IELTS Speaking Part 1, there will be a Question & Answer session between the candidate and the examiner around a specific topic, such as Reading in this case. The examiner will also ask some general questions in the beginning about the candidate, for instance, about where you live, where you work, study etc.

Part 1 focuses on the ability to share personal information and opinions on everyday life. There is no fixed quota of questions and the examiner is free to ask any number of questions. It lasts for around 4-5 minutes.

Following are the probable set of questions that may be asked by the examiner about Reading.

Do you like reading?

Yes, I am in absolute love with reading.. because every book unleashes a new set of adventure. When you experience life through the eyes of another, you encounter diverse angles on life’s most common situations. Reading books naturally inspire empathy for the characters, and empathizing with viewpoints different from our own.

Do you like to read at home or in other places?

Being a bookaholic, I prefer quiet spaces to read; it can be home or any other place for that matter. There is a central state library located in proximity to my house. I usually go there and read newspapers, aerospace journals and non-fiction books.

In what places do you think it is difficult to read?

Well, its’s really hard to concentrate on reading if the place is noisy or uncomfortable. For instance, reading in some café or public place is quite difficult because of noise and a lot of movement.

Do you like to read by yourself or with other people?

Actually, I am a solo reader. I always read in solitude. But I am willing to help others and share my wisdom. After all, sharing is caring!
