Introducing a special cake

A cake is the most vital part of celebrations nowadays. So today, I would love to talk about a special cake that I received on my 21st birthday.

When it happened?

  • It all happened in October last year.
  • Because of COVID, my 20th birthday was not that great.
  • So my mother decided to surprise me this time.

Where it happened?

  • The event happened at my home.
  • I was super excited as my birthday was approaching. So I called up a bunch of friends to come over on 17th October.
  • The whole party was well-planned by my elder brother.
  • Everything was taken care of except the cake. There was no mention of it in the list of arrangements.
  • This made me anxious and sceptical. I knew my family was up to something.

1. What are the differences between special food made in India and other countries?

Indian special food is a lot of vegetables and spice, whereas food made in other countries is lots of potatoes and meat. Meat is the staple ingredient that western people are fond to eat and are mostly omnivore in nature while Indians are largely vegetarians. Indian food is heavily influenced by cultural and religious choices. On the other hand, food in western countries does not put a substantial emphasis on culture and religion.

2. Is there any food in your country which is eaten on special occasions or special times?

A special occasion is an excuse to feast. The different festivals of India are enriched with many mouth-watering sweets and lavish food. For example, variety of milk preparations flaked with almonds and saffron are made during the time of Janamashtmi. During Durgotsav in West Bengal, people eat Sandesh (a sweetmeat) giving them much needed strength to enjoy the special festivities.

3. Why are some people willing to spend a lot of money on meals on special days?

Some people want to showcase their healthy lifestyle to other people surrounding them and that’s why they happily spent huge sums of money on meals prepared for birthdays, anniversaries etc. Moreover, food is the central element in any celebration and people willingly spend a lot of money on food to make it memorable.

4. Do you think it’s good to communicate when eating with your family?

Family dinners promote communication skills such as patiently listening and respectfully expressing opinions. Children are more likely to discuss sensitive issues with their parents when they are chatting around the dinner table. Eating with the family is also a good time to talk about familial customs and heritage.

4. Do you think it’s good to communicate when eating with your family?It is, in my opinion, the best and most ideal time to chat with family. To begin with, we are in a better frame of mind when we eat, therefore we are less likely to get into arguments. Individuals are also free during this period, allowing for virtually uninterrupted correspondence.
